How Michelin Tires Are Made For Wilmington Delaware
As kids, we generally are curious about everything. And for some, especially me, finding out how things are crafted or manufactured has always been fascinating. I don’t care if it’s candy bars, ice cream, soda cans, or wheel bearings. I love watching things get made.
Same goes for my curiosity about tire manufacturing. I marvel at how we take simple natural products, add in a dash of man-made materials, then use heat and pressure to produce a product that we have to rely on for our safety while driving on the roads. And, in the case of Michelin, that tire will last 50,000 miles or longer. I don’t know about you, but isn’t that incredible?
Michelin tires are designed and produced to ensure safety, durability, comfort and a long life for the owner. Now that is a true value. MICHELIN® Tires have better fuel efficiency, more stopping power and better longevity. So it’s no surprise that they have remained one of the top selling tires throughout the world. Michelin tires are featured on every type of vehicle, from sales Chevy, Ford, Chrysler to imports such as Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, BMW and Mercedes.
If your wondering how you can tell if a tire is worn and ready to be replaced, take a few minutes of your time and perform a simple inspection. Here are conditions to look for:
- Low Tread Depth. – Place a quarter upside down (George’s head is down in the tread line) in between the treads to measure the remaining tread depth. If the depth of the tire fails to cover Georges hairline, (4/32 of an inch) then it’s time to replace your tires!
- Sidewalls – Visually inspect the sidewalls of each tire for cracks, scuffs, tears or bulges (or bubbles) Consumer Reports now suggests that most tires should be replaced every 5 years regardless of condition. Think about it. Tires are subject to every condition we know of; weather and roads. All while having to perform so that our vehicle remains on the road and not off of it. TIRES WEAR OUT! It’s that simple. How would feel if you ran a 80,000 mile marathon in every kind of climate? Exactly! So, if you see cracks and the likes, call the tire professionals at Buckley’s Auto Care for your tire replacements.
- Tread Condition. – Although you may have the proper tread depth and you visually see no cracks or other injuries, take the final step of running your hand OVER the top of the tread line and feel for any irregularities. Proper tire life is dependent on a properly maintained suspension (good shocks, struts and alignment) along with the correct air pressures. When these conditions are not optimal, tires will begin to wear in unusual and uneven patterns causing you to sacrifice traction, safety and value. Running your hand over the top of the tread will allow you feel the tire pattern. You want to feel a flat surface across your hand at all times. If that’s not the case, see Buckley’s Auto Care for your chassis and tire inspection.
