Purchasing tires should not be taken lightly or based on price alone. Many consumers are under the impression that all tires are basically the same; black, round and made of rubber. Little is known about the many different sizes available for their car, light truck or SUV . When considering tires there are 3 Primary Standards to consider:
- Grade
- Temperature Rating
- Traction
All of these standards are rated alphabetically from A to C depending on the construction and make-up of the tire. But it’s not the only thing you need to know about what type of tire is best for your car or light truck. Some vehicles will not perform as intended if you decide to install tires that are not spec rated for your make or model. Slight vibrations may be felt. or in the case of a performance car, a serious difference in handling and traction could occur.
The Video “Tire Fitment Guide” is a great way to understand what it takes to properly and safely re-fit your car and light truck with the proper tires.
Buckley’s Auto Care carries a wide range of tires including Michelin, Kumho, Goodyear, Firestone, Bridgestone and B.F. Goodrich for all makes and models in the Wilmington, Delaware area. Stop in today for your inspection or call 302-613-0532 for a competitive price quote.
Tire Care Tips:
When are your tires actually worn out? This is a question a lot of us in Wilmington Delaware drivers ask ourselves. For many, the answer is “when they no longer pass a safety inspection”. But waiting that long can have a serious impact on your safety. Here’s what you can look for in a worn tire:
- Check for cracks along the sidewall areas along with the lower bead section (area close to the rim) and in between the treads.
- Take a U.S. Quarter, turn it upside down and measure where the tread meets George Washington’s head. If it’s at his shoulders, then it’s time to replace the tires. It’s approximately 4/32 of an inch. That measurement doesn’t seem like much, but in terms of safety, could be the difference between life and injury.
- Bumps or an irregular pattern on the top of the tread may indicate a worn shock, an unfavorable alignment condition or both. A chassis inspection may be necessary to actually determine the cause of the irregular wear pattern.
There are other conditions to look for but these are the most common. REMEMBER: If a tire is 5 years or older, Consumer Reports recommends replacing your tires regardless of it’s appearance.
